Introduction of Organization
Friends Welfare Association (FWA) is a non-governmental humanitarian organization deeply committed to community development, with a particular focus on marginalized and vulnerable segments of society. Friends Welfare Association duly registered organization in Pakistan under Society Registration Act of 1860. FWA adheres to national policies outlined by the Economic Affairs Division, possessing a valid MOU with GOP and certified NPO from PCP and the FBR 2(36) under the Income Tax Ordinance of 2001. Furthermore, FWA has been recognized as a Category “A” organization by the Charity Commission Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Since its inception, FWA has been working in partnership with and funding support from international partners, corporate sector organizations and UN organizations to provide a widely accessible, equitable and quality education, public and community infrastructure development, providing employable skill training, WASH facilities, health services, climate change mitigation/ adaptation and emergency relief to disadvantaged communities. FWA has contributed significantly in the post 2005 earthquake, 2009 Swat crisis, the 2010 floods, COVID-19 emergency, and 2022 floods. The emergency responses to these crises have gained FWA a creditable reputation and the gratitude of the government, local communities, and various stakeholders. Since 2006, FWA has undergone a remarkable transformation from a small organization to a prestigious national entity, highly regarded by both the government and local communities for the quality and value-for-money of its interventions. FWA has made substantial interventions in various sectors such as Education, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), Sustainable and Disaster-Resilient Infrastructure, Climate Change, Gender Equality, Health, Emergency relief & rehab, Livelihood, psychosocial support, and Shelter & Non-Food Items (NFIs). Notably, FWA has also been influential in advocacy for policy change, especially for the importance of girls’ education at the provincial & national level and the prevention of harmful societal practices such Gender Based Violence (GBV), Early and Forced Marriages and Child Labor. The interventions made by FWA have significantly contributed towards improved living conditions and brought positive changes in the target areas.
