Disaster Resilient And Sustainable Public Infrastructure
In partnership with the Government of Pakistan, FWA plays a key role in developing disaster-resilient and climate-friendly public infrastructure across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu & Kashmir, particularly following the 2005 earthquake. We have constructed over 200 government schools, designed to withstand natural disasters with seismic-resistant features.
These schools incorporate eco-friendly elements such as solar energy, clean water access, tree planting, and waste management, enhancing both environmental sustainability and disaster preparedness. Our projects involve collaboration with organizations like ERRA, NESPAK, and the E&SE departments of KP and AJK. FWA has earned multiple accolades, including the "Best Performance Award" from ERRA.
Additionally, we have provided over 30 construction module designs to E&SE departments, serving as valuable resources for future projects. By prioritizing safety and sustainability, FWA is committed to creating a secure future and improving the physical environment of government schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Disaster Risk Management Approaches
• Community-Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM)
FWA emphasizes community engagement through community action planning, which enhances local insights and aids in mapping resources for strategic planning.
• Capacity Building
We empower community members through workshops and training, enhancing their disaster risk management skills. To date, 8,900 community members have been trained in preparedness and disaster risk management for potential risks such as earthquakes, floods, and landslides.
• Awareness Campaigns
Targeted campaigns educate communities about disaster risks and proactive preparedness, reaching 200,000 individuals via social media networks.
• School-Based Disaster Risk Management (SBDRM)
FWA implements SBDRM plans within its projects to ensure educational continuity and child safety. Our approach fosters a culture of safety and resilience among students, with 790 teachers and 23,670 students trained on SBDRM strategies.
Through our comprehensive approach to disaster risk management, FWA aims to enhance community safety, protect educational environments, and equip future generations to handle unforeseen challenges effectively.
